BMW’s Real time Traffic Information transforms your navigation system from features that you might only use when going to an unfamiliar destination to a daily benefit that helps you reach your destination more relaxed than ever before.

The services available on 2007 and later 3, 5 and 6 series produced after September 2006, as well as on the X5, M5 and M6.

Real time traffic information is delivered over a comprehensive network of FM radio stations and is available in most metropolitan markets. Current traffic conditions are monitored by local traffic command centers and verified for accuracy. 

Traffic information is gathered and continuously updated from video cameras, speed sensors, digital scanners, aircraft spotters, tipsters, Police and public transportation departments. 

The data is automatically received by the BMWs radio tuner even if the radio is turned off or tuned to different station. The information is displayed in the vehicle both on the map as icons and in a list.

Events on an active navigation route are highlighted by a yellow diamond. BMW drivers can scroll through a list of traffic events and view detailed information, such as the affected road, extent of the back up, and the duration of delay. 

Enable the dynamic route option and the system will automatically provide an alternate route around the traffic event, if the delay is calculated to exceed five minutes.

If the dynamic route option is not selected, the system will present an audible last exit warning with a detour option.

Drivers have the option to accept the proposed route to avoid the traffic backup or make their own decision based on the information provided. Real time Traffic Information helps BMW drivers reach their destination with less effort than ever before and makes the navigation system more useful during the daily commute.
